Amid reports that officers from the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission (EACC) spent the better part of Wednesday at the official residents of two senior accounts officers in the Nakuru County government, a section of residents have praised the move saying there is a need to curb corruption.
They have called for similar impromptu swoops on all those suspected to have indulged in graft.
“It’s interesting how counties have become cash cows, employees are becoming rich overnight. We want the Anticorruption Commission to help us put such people to account,” Janet Weru said.
She says that if nothing will be done nationally concerning corruption at the county level, the kind of looting going on will send the country into a cash crunch.
“I have been a senior officer in the public service for more than 20 years and understand how things are done there, but this devolution system of governance is a problem in itself, people seek jobs there with a formed mind of getting rich,” she added.
Moses Nyabege, a civil society leader, hailed the move.
“We said it, demonstrated and even handed over a report to them regarding what we knew but they threw at us teargas and dismissed our report but this is their time to prove their innocence, we are ready to show our evidence if they need any,” Nyabege said.
