Traders in Nakuru County violating health regulations and standards risk arrest and their licences revoked, director public health and sanitation Dr Joseph Lenai has said.
Speaking Thursday, Lenai said taking such drastic measures especially during this rainy season was the surest way of keeping diseases and epidemics at bay.
"This county grappled with a cholera epidemic mid this year and it was largely due to traders especially those hawking food who failed to adhere to the required hygiene standards and flouted health regulations. We are now warning them in advance to follow the law or we close down their businesses," he said.
Lenai also clarified that there was no need to panic over the health effects of the ongoing rains maintaining that they are prepared in every way possible to combat it as a ministry.
Nakuru County is among some of the counties which were hardest hit by the cholera epidemic across the country mid this year.
During the outbreak, several businesses including food hawking were closed down.
