Youth and students in Nakuru have been trained in conflict resolution mechanisms among other topics.
At a training held on Monday at the Nakuru Library, Ms Rachael Kungu of Peace Caravan Organisation took the participants through the definitions of peace, conflict resolution and peace building.
“Peace is about security, development and social justice,” said Racheal to the young people.
She added that not all conflict is negative conflict as there are some which cause someone to look into themselves and reevaluate their values.
Ms Judith Oganda, head of counselling department at Menengai High School advised the participants to always uphold peace and refrain from being used by politicians to cause unrest.
“Let us always keep away from politicians who may want to use us to fight others. We should use our numbers to stand against them and say no,” said Oganda who was accompanied by members of the Peace Corps club from the school.
Mr. Gitonga Muhuriri, a motivational speaker and financial consultant with Elica Consultants told the youth to strive and achieve financial independence as this will keep them occupied and thus will not be misused for handouts.
