A Member of County Assembly in Nakuru has called on the youth to utilise their energies towards doing what will make a positive impact in their lives rather than engaging in alcoholism, pre-marital sex and drug abuse.
Speaking during a Harambee in the aid of the construction of a student’s dormitory at Mai Mahiu Boys' High School, the area MCA Richard Tutu Ng’ethe condemned such acts saying that it was an indicator that something was amiss in our current society.
According to Ng’ethe, it was the responsibility of all adult members of the society to instil discipline and good morals to the youthful members of the society.
“Let’s not shy away from the reality of life because if we allow our youths to be rebellious at a tender age, they will be a problem in the future not only to you as a parent but to the society where they stay,” he added.
Richard specifically took issue with young drunkards saying that a majority of them could save the society from economic stagnation if they instead chose to be productive.
He called on the youth to form groups and seek government funding that will enable them start businesses rather than idling or ruining their future.
“If you think you have a noble business idea, don’t shy away; look for like-minded individuals and come to me, I promise to show you how you can access these government loans," he said.
Deputy governor Joseph Ruto was the chief guest in the function and among other notable leaders was the area MP Joseph Kihagi, a host of MCAs and other senior county government officials. More than Kshs. 3 million shillings was raised.
