Nakuru Analysts is without a doubt the most popular and influential WhatsApp group in Nakuru.
Created on January 23, 2015, majority of Nakuru residents consider it a great honour to be added to this esteemed group. It is the most influential group in Nakuru and it even at one time played the role of the opposition in Nakuru.
The founder of the group Elijah Kinyanjui is a former journalist and he’s considered by some as the best political analyst in Nakuru. Most members agree that he has revolutionized social media in Nakuru and credit him for the new networks they have created.
To get membership to the group, one must have proved their mettle from other groups. Dormancy is not tolerated in the group and failing to contribute to discussions regularly is a recipe for removal.
Topics discussed in the group are widespread but political discourse takes over 70% of the content. Mediocre discussions are not tolerated and any member who engages in this vehemently gets rebuked.
The group which has evolved into a registered lobby group has in the past rubbed the Nakuru county Government the wrong way. The group admin has even found himself behind bars for content posted on the page.
According to Kinyanjui, the greatest achievement of the WhatsApp group has been bringing together of people from diverse professions and walks of life.
“We brainstorm and analyse issues in concert to societal needs in a structured way leading to the forum keeping the county in check. In a county where civil society has somehow died, we play that role and also act as the unofficial opposition,” says Kinyanjui.
He adds that Nakuru Analysts is the only structured body that keeps the county in check while engaging its available top officers daily on services delivery, governance and other issues.
