Kisii County governor James Ongwae has challenged members of parliament not to accept health function to be taken back by the national government.
This comes after some leaders and residents proposed that health function be taken back by the national government because counties have been experiencing challenges in managing the sector.
Ongwae said delay of money from the national government to county governments has made many county projects not to perform well, including the woes facing the health sector.
“I am asking members of parliament to fight for county governments to develop and not to get some functions which had been devolved to get back to national government,” he said.
He added: “I can’t accept health function to be taken from county governments because residents have benefited a lot from health services. The government should send money to counties in time so that county projects can be completed."
