The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has expressed confidence in Nakuru youths commitment in preaching peace and reconciliation after successfully holding an education and consultative workshop in the county.

Speaking on Wednesday at a Nakuru hotel during the official closing of the workshop, Commissioner Mohammed Hassan noted that the strides being made by the county government by involving young people in governance had built their trust and were ready to be part of any initiative geared towards promoting unity in the society.

“Being among the first counties we have visited so far as a commission, we are sincerely encouraged by the response we have received in Nakuru and as we go, we are convinced that we have enough peace ambassadors here,” Hassan noted.

He further called on young people not to shy away from taking up leadership positions which he said offers the perfect ground to drive and promote the youth agenda which are crucial in achieving the country’s vision 2030.

Commissioner Hassan urged youth not to be misled by politicians during political campaigns come 2017, saying that if young people could make informed decisions, a repeat of what was witnessed during the disputed 2007 presidential poll results will never happen in the country.

“It’s the role of you young people to tell these leaders what you want, not the other way round. Allowing yourselves to dance to their tune is the beginning of fights which slowly are translated into tribal wars as campaigns gain momentum, help us to ensure peaceful campaigns next year,” he said.

NCIC is on a 47 county tour where they are supposed to hold workshops with young people as they encourage them to be peace ambassadors ahead of the 2017 polls.
