A chief in Ndeiya, Limuru sub-county was on Wednesday handed a three-week civil jail term for neglecting his children.
Limuru Resident Magistrate Timothy Ole Tanchu ruled that Chief William Njogu had failed to honour terms of a consent made before the court in March 2014 with his wife Elizabeth Wamoyo regarding the upkeep of their four children.
Back in March 2014, their four children had sued their father through their mother and uncle.
The children complained that despite their father having a job as an administrator, he didn't cater for anything they required including their basic needs.
In their complaint, they also said that their father who separated with their mother had totally forgotten about them and he always avoided meeting them.
In an agreement reached, Mr Njogu was required to pay a monthly allowance of Sh 7000 to his wife for the children's upkeep.
However despite the agreement, the mother complained that the chief only honoured it for the first five months only.
Justice Ole Tanchu in his judgment said the court had confirmed that the accused had failed to honour the terms.
He said Njogu will serve a three-week civil jail.
