Residents from Athi River North sub-location in Mavoko constituency have been urged to register as voters in Machakos and not Kajiado county.

Addressing the residents at Shoringe village in Mavoko on Tuesday, Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader, Wavinya Ndeti said majority of the locals whose homes border Machakos and Kajiado counties voted in the latter in the 2013 general elections despite being residents of Mavoko Constituency in Machakos county.

“I urge you all residents of Athi River North to turn up in numbers and register as voters in Mavoko constituency and not Kajiado East during the ongoing mass voter registration,” said Wavinya.

Wavinya said it is not advisable for the residents to take votes and participate in elections in Kajiado county because they cannot benefit from the county government in any way in terms of development projects.

She urged the locals across Machakos county who live in its borders and those of Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui and Nairobi Counties to register as voters in Machakos county ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Ndeti said it is crazy for the residents to cross borders and vote in neighboring counties in which they do not benefit from in any way at all.

She said she is rallying for the Machakos gubernatorial seat for the second time having lost it to Dr Alfred Mutua in 2013.

“You people from Athi River Township location voted for me 100 percent in the last general elections, do not cry for the God’s time is the best. It is the same position that I am going for and I will get it in Jesus name,” said Ndeti.

“I urge you to register as voters in Mavoko constituency of Machakos County because you cannot receive any development from Kajiado County,” said she.

Ndeti called on chiefs and their assistants across the county to help mobilize and sensitize the residents on the importance of holding national identification card and registering as a voter ahead of the 2017 polls.
