Ndumberi Chief Sylvester Gaithuma has urged residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi and supplement police efforts in fighting crime.
Addressing residents at Ndumberi on Wednesday, Gaithuma said that security in the area will improve if residents embrace Nyumba Kumi and other community policing measures.
The Chief said that the area has in the recent past experienced a spate of criminal activities adding that the crime could be easily curbed if residents support police efforts.
“Security threats being experienced in this area can be easily fought if residents work closely with the police,” said Gaithuma.
Gaithuma said that his office has taken steps to sensitise Ndumberi residents on importance of Nyumba Kumi.
The Chief said that more sensitization programmes have been lined up adding that residents should not fear giving out information to the police.
“The main set back on security is that many people fear giving out information for fear of being intimidated,” he noted.
There have been concerns on deteriorating security in Ndumberi and neighbouring areas.
On Tuesday, police gunned down a notorious gunman who residents say has been terrorising them for months. Police have in the area have since vowed to crack down on all criminal gangs.
