A section of youths in Ndumberi Ward, Kiambu County have vowed to stand with Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Anne Waiguru even as she battles corruption allegations against her ministry.
Speaking at Ndumberi grounds on Tuesday, the youths said that they will not abandon the CS arguing that her performance at the ministry has been good.
Joshua Mburu, a youth coordinator in the Ward said that they are not in agreement with people calling for Waiguru’s sacking.
Mburu said that those calling for removal of the CS are being led by malice and selfish politics.
“As Ndumberi youths we are solemnly behind CS Waiguru and we will not allow a few people to continue tarnishing her name,” he said.
Jennifer Mwangi, a university student and resident in Ndumberi, accused some leaders of politicising graft allegations against CS Waiguru.
She claimed that the people calling for Waiguru’s sacking are enemies of development and the youths. Mwangi called for investigations into the corruption scandals at the devolution ministry.
“Investigations should be done and appropriate action taken against the culprits instead of condemning and tainting the image of one person,” she said.
There have been allegations of massive corruption at the Devolution Ministry with Waiguru being put to task to explain the allegations.
A section of leaders both in government and opposition have called for removal from office but the CS maintains that she is clean of the alleged graft.
On Tuesday Waiguru was grilled for close to seven hours by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi over the alleged graft at the Ministry.
