Outside of Nairobi, Kiambu has among the best schools in Kenya.
Apart from the fact that the agricultural county is one of the most productive in terms of agriculture, education is another of its strongholds.
The schools in Kiambu are due to the missionaries and colonialists who set up camp in the former White Highlands. This white influence is still felt today.
Kiambu has more than 200 secondary schools and some of these schools are among the best performing in the country. These include St. Anne's Secondary School-Lioki, Loreto Girls High School Kiambu, Kanunga High School, Kiambu High School, Thika High School, Kijabe Boys and Girls High Schools and Mang’u High among others.
One unmissable thing is that despite the county’s perceived opposition to former President Daniel Moi, there are a number of schools which benefitted from the man himself including the Moi Girls Kamangu, Mirithu Girls and others which benefitted from the education-oriented president.
Despite the Kanu regime not having a free education policy, Moi was a man who cared for education and this is evident from the number of schools in his name. But that’s a story for another day.
Even in areas formerly perceived to not be backward like Ndeiya, there are schools established a few years ago and they are starting to show signs of growth academically and otherwise.
Among these we have Ndung'u Girls’ and Boys’ Secondary Schools, Nguirubi Secondary – Mixed Day and Mukoma High School – Mixed Day.
And so, after KCPE candidates look forward to joining Form One, Kiambu could be the county of choice to have your son or daughter get that education.
