High performing needy students from a section of constituencies from Kisii County in the 2015 KCPE have a reason to smile after some leaders vowed to us the CDF kitty to help them get to national schools.
MPs Joel Onyancha (Bomachoge-Borabu), Stephen Manoti (Bobasi) and Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North), who paid a courtesy call to county’s deputy governor in his office on Monday, said it was critical the children get support from the CDF kitty.
Manoti said the performance from public schools from the county was a bit promising and said a number of students were likely to get admitted to national schools.
“I have been sharing with my colleagues and we are unanimous that it will be prudent if we support children from needy backgrounds from our respective constituencies who will get admission to national schools. That is the only way we can give our brilliant children hope of saving their families and community in future. Performance from public schools was a bit fair,” he said.
Angwenyi on his part urged leaders across the country to embrace their bold move by taking full responsibility on the education of needy students saying that it was worth supporting.
“I know most of our leaders prefer giving full scholarships to high performers in institutions of higher learning but I think it’s time for us to give them full sponsorship from the CDF kitty to avoid unnecessary interruption of their education. That is the nice step to emulate,” he said.
Mr Maangi on his part urged the legislators to be transparent in supporting education in their respective regions by giving support ton those who deserve it.
“I am happy to see these MPs agreeing to support fully top performers from their constituencies and I hope the rest will follow suit. What we want to see is transparency in the support they give. I want to challenge them to always be open and truthful when helping so that the helpless get hope of achieving by getting support from us,” he said.
