Members of the public have been urged to stop stigmatising HIV positive people at work places.
Speaking at Royal City hotel during the dissemination of the HIV and Aids Tribunal Strategic Plan 2013-2017, the chairperson of the tribunal Jotham Arwa said discriminating against those infected by the virus at work places affects them negatively.
"We should desist from looking at infection of the virus as a curse and we should give those who are infected the moral support that they need," said Arwa.
He also urged employers to give those who are infected a conducive working environments so that they do not feel alienated from the other employees.
"We have witnessed cases of some employers sending away some workers for having the virus and it is a great cause for concern," he added.
Mr Arwa also noted that risk of stigmatisation not only discourages people from going for HIV tests but it also makes some people who are positive to shy away from seeking some services.
The meeting of the dissemination of the HIV and Aids tribunal plan ends in November 5, with the official launch of the Kisumu county HIV and Aids tribunal slated for November 19.
