Uasin Gishu woman representative Eusilah Ngeny has urged women in the region to apply for the Affirmative Action Fund offered by the national government.

Speaking in her office of Friday, Ngeny said the money has been distributed equally to all the 47 counties and soon will be disbursed to women and youths in the county.

"Uasin Gishu County has been given Sh42 million and I urge women to form and register groups to access the monies. In two weeks time, we will start issuing the funds to registered women groups. So I urge women to apply for the fund," she said.

She said of the Sh42 million, 20 per cent will be channelled to the economic empowerment of women and youths where table banking will be a requirement. The groups should have at least 200 members.

Another 20 per cent will be used for bursaries for orphaned children, 10 per cent on civic education, while 50 per cent will be channelled to other projects such as water, groups campaigning against gender violence among others.

"I urge women to apply for the funds and invest in projects that will benefit them since they will need to repay the monies back. They should also embrace table banking for them to access the funds," added the woman rep.
