It was all smiles for residents of Kerina in Kisii South after they were given free medical services, courtesy of O-Foundation and other partners.

Speaking during the event on Monday evening, the director of O-Foundation John Mogaka said the non-governmental organisation had launched the program intended to provide free medical services across Kisii County.

Mogaka noted that the cost of seeking medical care had become expensive to most residents which prompted the organisation to embark on the drive.

He cited screening of cervical cancer, hypertension, voluntary male circumcision, eye problems, malaria and other general ailments among others as some of the diseases the residents will be screened for.

“I am happy because I have been treated and supplied with free drugs which we rarely find in most of the public hospitals,” said Irene Nyakerario, a resident of Kerina, adding that most people were not able to afford the cost of buying drugs from private chemists.

She further appealed to the government to support such organisations in a bid to enable more people access free medical services.

"We want more of other government and non-governmental organisations to chip in and give such services," she added.
