All Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in Kisii County have been challenged to accountably and transparently use the funds they receive from donors to ensure women are economically empowered.

Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi said NGOs working in the county have a responsibility of ensuring the funds they receive from the donor community in the name of assisting local women transform their lives economically.

Speaking at Gusii Stadium on Sunday during a funds drive in aid of Kisii County Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), he challenged all NGOs operating in the area to ensure the financial resources they access from development partners and donors from the western capitals, transform the lives of the local woman on whose name they sought the funding.

Mwangi, however, challenged the NGOs to collaborate with MYWO and tap on its grassroots networks to ensure they reach out to the grassroots women who are in need of economic empowerment instead of working in isolation yet they were all targeting the same client.

"Iam challenging all NGOs working in this county to ensure the funds they receive from the donors and other development partners are well utilised for the benefit of the local women to enhance their capacity in political and socio-economic transformation," stated Mwangi.
