Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta on his numerous foreign trips, which have recently attracted public uproar.

Ngunjiri who was addressing Dundori residents in Nakuru County said that the government had made tremendous efforts in improving the economy of the country.

"Our President is making these trips to strengthen this country’s relationship with other nations. There is no day he has traveled to meet his personal interests. This is a serious allegation that should stop immediately," Ngunjiri said.

President Kenyatta has made 44 foreign trips since he ascended to power in 2013, 11 more than his predecessor President Mwai Kibaki made in his 10-year tenure.

He called on the opposition to demonstrate good leadership for the sake of development in the country.

"We need an opposition that brings alternatives to challenges, not endless criticism. We need good leadership from the Cord coalition, one that will foster unity rather than divisions in the country," he said.

The MP also urged leaders to be on the front line in fighting corruption which is speedily negating growth of the economy.
