Men should be cautiously careful while registering to be members of the National Hospital Insurance Fund popularly known as NHIF, says Omollo.

Addressing this writer at Mlolongo town on Tuesday, Jackson Omollo, resident of the town in Machakos county said unmarried men should be careful while submitting their membership application to the fund for the first time.

“I have gotten experience though an eye opener to submitting application for membership of the fund,” said Omollo.

Omollo said the unmarried men were the most vulnerable to what he termed to as tedious and intimidating process a member of the fund is subjected to before amending couple details of his spouse.

He said he thought it was just a simple deal for one to incorporate his new spouse in his fund’s account when he marries for the first time only to realize that it was not that easy.

“I got married early last year hence sought to include my wife to be a beneficiary to my NHIF at the funds offices in Kitengela, I did not believe the tedious and time-consuming process I was exposed to,” said Omollo.

The 28-year-old man said he was issued with an application form for spouse information change that he filled accordingly and provided listed documents that included copies of his and her wife’s national identification cards and photo passports thinking that was all.

Omollo said the documents were rejected at the NHIF office as he was directed to seek an affidavit and take an oath at a court of law.

He said he prepared the document and followed the due procedure by taking along his wife to Mavoko Law Courts in Athi River town where they both took oath before a senior resident magistrate before the affidavit was validated and accepted by the NHIF office.

Omollo advised that people should be careful while registering for such government funds especially while single at the time of registration to avoid complications when their marital status change.
