A section of women from Njoro sub-county have called on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to increase their funding during government grants allocation so as to increase their chances of being empowered and becoming self-reliant.
In a closed door meeting between the governor and women affiliated to 10 groups from the area on Wednesday at the Njoro Park during the ongoing county outreach programme, the women lamented how some areas were being given the lions share during the loans allocations at their expense.
Led by the sub-county women groups' association coordinator Millicent Wairimu, the women who included single mothers, widows and the elderly, called for equitable distribution of resources, arguing that all of them were from the same county subjected to same rules and regulations.
"Why should some sub counties have more than 10 groups as beneficiaries while we only have a mere 5 groups being funded under the same programme? We feel alienated and ignored," Wairimu noted.
They expressed their satisfaction in governor Mbugua's efforts of empowering youth and women but called for accountability and inclusiveness from those managing the funds at the county level.
The governor noted that his government was committed to supporting women and youth affairs arguing that his dream was to nurture a county where minority groups will be free to directly participate in governance.
He called on the women to foster voter registration and education initiatives so as to ensure the county achieves its target by having many people register.
