Kiambu county commissioner Alex Nkoyo has urged residents to continue working with law enforcement agencies as they combat crime.

While lauding the residents for their cooperation so far, Nkoyo said that security officials need the full support of locals to effectively fight crime.

Speaking at Kiambu headquarters on Saturday after attending a meeting convened by the County Alcoholic Drinks Enforcement Committee on Saturday, the commissioner observed that crime had declined in the last one month.

The Kiambu commissioner attributed the decline in crime to the Nyumba Kumi security initiative and other community policing measures being drafted and implemented by the national and county government.

The commissioner also noted that police have been carrying out massive operations to get rid of criminal elements. He added that law enforcers will not tire up in fighting crime adding that more measures are being implemented.

“We are happy that members of the public have seen the need to work with us and are really supporting our mechanisms  in fighting crime,” he said.

Commenting on claims that illicit brews were resurfacing, Nkoyo warned that the police will deal firmly with people engaging in illicit brew trade.

He said that his office was working closely with other government agencies to tame illicit brews and sale of second generation alcoholic drinks in the county.
