The nominated Kiambu county Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mary Mwangi has called upon people with disability to register with the Disabled People of Kenya Organisation in order to benefit from various programmes rolled out by the government for them.
She made the remarks on Sunday when she was addressing small scale business people in Makongeni town, Thika sub-county.
She urged disabled people in the county who have not registered to apply for registration immediately so that they can benefit from the government funds for the vulnerable groups among them bursaries and Biashara fund.
Mary has also called upon the county government officials to ensure that disabled people with waiting cards were not harassed when they start businesses in the area.
The MCA who also represents the interests of disabled people in the county assembly cautioned parents who have children with disabilities against confining them in the houses.
She said that some parents were keeping such children away from the community noting that they were denying them their right of education and freedom.
