Public service and heavy commercial vehicles using the Kikuyu Southern Bypass will have their speed governors inspected before Christmas.
This is meant to reduce accidents during this festive season.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Inspection chairman in Kikuyu, Erastus Mwangi said that most PSVs have tampered with their vehicles speed governors resulting in accidents due to speeding.
Mwangi said that speed governors for vehicles in the area would be rectified for free to help regulate speed on the roads. He added that some operators intentionally tamper with their vehicles to exceed speed.
"We are not only going to repair those with faulty governors, but we are also going to educate drivers on the importance of these gadgets," stated Mwangi.
According to Mwangi, arresting the individuals and their vehicles is not the solution to end the menace but instead should be educated on the dangers of playing around with their governors.
“Most accidents experienced along busy roads like the Southern Bypass involve heavy commercial vehicles as a result of speeding,'' stated Mwangi.
