The National Transport and Safety Authority in conjuction with traffic police department in Gilgil have intensified a crackdown on all public service vehicles on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The crackdown comes in the wake of a grisly road accident on Tuesday along the highway which killed four people.

According to Gilgil police boss Susan Koki, the crackdown will continue until motorists adhere to traffic rules. 

“This crackdown is for the benefit of all road users, especially their safety,’’ explained Susan on Tuesday.

So far, over 60 vehicles have been impounded for flouting traffic rules among them speeding, overloading, unroadworthy vehicles among other offences.

Hundreds of travellers were stranded as their vehicles were detained.
