The NTSA has called upon the public not to board vehicles which are not designed to carry passengers.
According to the NTSA general director, Francis Meja, the body has registered over 650 sacco vehicles to carry passengers. He also cautioned motorists from driving while drunk and driving at high speeds.
Many people are risking their lives travelling in vehicles designed for carrying goods. Some of these incidences are witnessed in Kibera. The habit has also taken over school going children who want to hang on the vehicles as they pass the roads.
Hebert Musonge, a bodaboda operator at DC in Kibera, said many children in the area risk their lives to climb and hung on vehicles on route DC, Makina.
‘‘The children wait to see which vehicle is coming. Most of the times they hung on big lorries where the driver cannot see who is behind. When lorries reach the bump, they usually slow down. As the driver slows down, the children quickly climb on the lorry,’’ explained Musonge.
He also blamed the children’s parents because they never bother where their children are and what they could be doing.
