Teachers Service Commission has once again come under immense criticism over understaffing of institutions in Kisii County.

Former CIC chairman Charles Nyachae led a host of other leaders from the region to call for deployment of an estimated 400 teachers to the region to combat understaffing crisis.

Mr Nyachae, who was speaking at Hema secondary school in Nyaribari Masaba constituency, said local schools from the region were discriminated by TSC making them struggle in competing fairly with other institutions.

“The statistics of a deficiency of 400 teachers in Kisii County is worrying. Many of our local schools where many of children enroll are in a serious crisis and this makes the schools perform badly. TSC must respond urgently to salvage the situation,” he said.

He called for urgent assessment of the situation and urged TSC to fix the predicament before it escalated to ‘unimaginable’ disaster.

“The commission should deploy its officers to assess the situation. It’s really absurd that some schools are working with as low as three government teachers. The problem must be contained before it translates to unimaginable disaster. We need more teachers,” he said.

Area MP Elijah Moindi blamed education officers from the region for ‘sleeping’ of their job alleging that his administration has tried to discuss the issue with them but nothing concrete have materialised.

“We have a serious shortage and even the education offices admit that. They are simply sleeping on their job and this is unacceptable. We need an urgent action,” he said.

During the function, close to Sh3.6 million shillings was collected and is set to renovate dormitories and classrooms.
