Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has reassured county residents of his government's commitment to acquire fire engines.
Speaking three days after fire razed down goods and property of unknown value in Kebirigo market, the county chief maintained that he was committed to ensure that such tragedies are averted in the near future.
"We had placed an order to procure a fire engine sometime last year but the winning firm has indicated that the specific machine is currently out of stock and we are therefore set to readvertise for a new order immediately," he said.
The governor expressed his gratitude towards the people of Kebirigo who offered to respond quickly to put out the fire.
"I salute hundreds of people who were quick to respond and help during the Kebirigo emergency," Nyagarama said.
The governor also condemned people who took advantage of the situation to loot property that was salvaged from the fire, further calling upon security agencies to have the culprits apprehended and action taken against them.
The governor was speaking during the official opening of the Nyamira County Assembly 4th Session of February 9, 2016.
