Nyamira governor John Nyagarama has refused to bow to pressure from Members of County Assembly over a task force report over corruption allegations in various county government departments.

The Nyagarama task force committee was established in March 2015 and the county leadership has failed to table the report for discussion at the assembly, four months after the findings were handed over to the governor.

On Monday, county head of public service Erick Onchana refused to give access to report the committee of implementation that has been directed by Speaker Joash Nyamoko to table it before the house.

“The assembly is independent and should not rely on a report by the executive for discussion. They should also constitute another committee to investigate the alleged corruption. This report belongs to executive therefore they do not have a right to question its whereabouts,” Onchana said.

Earlier in the assembly, a number of MCAs lead by Majority Whip Peter Maroro had accused the executive of frustrating efforts of the assembly to perform their oversight role.

“He (Nyagarama) had consulted the assembly to set up the committee and we expected that he would be kind enough to submit the same for discussion in the house. This therefore means the executive is hell bent to fight graft in some of its offices,” Maroro said.

Onchana said the report had been submitted to public oversight authority committee which had made recommendations that the governor was working on.

“We are an independent entity and the report was submitted to the Public Oversight Authority and who have since handed the recommendations to the governor for action,” he added.
