Residents of Nyambunwa village in Sameta sub-county have been warned against hiding their children under five from being immunised against polio.
Village elder Kasmir Maobe assured residents that the vaccine is safe and there was no reason for them to fear having their children immunised against polio which he said was a threat to future lives of the children in the country.
Speaking on Monday morning in the area during a public mobilisation exercise to ensure all children under five have been immunised during the ongoing polio campaign, Maobe regretted that some parents feared the consequences of having their children immunised as they doubted the vaccine's effects on their health.
"I am assuring parents and the public that the vaccine being administered to Kenyan children under five has been tested by certified agencies and found to have no negative side effects on the children's health," stated Maobe.
The village head encouraged parents in the area to take their children for the jab and allayed fears the vaccine was detrimental to their health.
Maobe's sentiments come amid some reports claiming the vaccine has negative effects on the health of the children, a move that prompted the Ministry of Health to assure parents and the public across the country that new polio vaccine is safe.
