Nyamira County government officials mishandling bursary fund meant for the needy and bright students will be sacked.
Area Governor John Nyagarama said those implicated will have to carry their own cross and face the law.
“If you use your position as an employee of the County to divert the funds to your own personal gain you must be held responsible,” warned Nyagarama.
The governor said some officials were awarding themselves the funds to their personal friends and family who are able to pay fees.
He added that the fund in all 20 wards should only be used to support the needy and bright students in respective schools.
While appreciating the support from donors towards the education of the needy, Nyagarama said the county had set aside Sh8 million in every ward for bursaries of such children.
He called on the ward administrators to work closely with chiefs and their assistants and education office in identifying and supporting such children.
Nyagarama added that the county assembly had increased the fund from Sh1 million in every ward to Sh5 million to cater for more students.
“The bursary scheme has been increased because it could not cater for ever growing number of applications of students yearning for education in our learning institution,” he said.
The governor was speaking to the press in Nyamira town on Wednesday.
