Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga has warned illicit brewers and bar attendants who attempt to assault chiefs and village elders carrying out crackdowns on illicit brews in the county of dire consequences.
Onunga in a statement said incidences of brewers, bar attendants and hired goons harassing chiefs and village elders in Nyamira had been reported to her office, something she said was jeopardising fight against killer brews.
She added that investigations have already commenced and those found culpable of the offence will face the full force of the law.
“Stern action will be taken against individuals or groups who engage in such deeds because they are obstructing government officers from doing their work,” she warned.
She added that illicit brewing will only end if the dens are destroyed and owners arrested.
The commissioner further added that the government won’t relent in war against illicit brew.
