Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o on Monday slammed County Speaker for what he termed as ‘overstepping’ his jurisdictions contrary to the constitution.
Speaker Joash Nyamoko had accused three of Nyamira MPs during a well-attended funeral ceremony of Borabu MP Ben Momanyi’s brother of dragging development by engaging in political side shows.
The remarks did not go well with Mong’are, who accused the speaker of trying to overstep his mandate by questioning leadership of elected MPs who oversights national government.
“I think Speaker you’re getting it wrong. Leave alone our MPs and questioning why they are not here is a non-issue. Perhaps they had spoken to their colleague (Ben Momanyi) because they might be busy elsewhere. You should concentrate on matters county government and in that case you have 33 MCAs to guide,” said Mong’are.
He absolved MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), James Gesami (West Mugirango) and Charles Geni (North Mugirango of any wrong doing and challenged the speaker to leave the matter to county executive to engage the MPs on matters development.
“Your mandate as speaker is well stipulated and we don’t want to argue on that. Let the executive complaint to the MPs if it feels that the MPs are sabotaging development and there is a right channel to do that,” he added.
The three MPs, who conspicuously skipped the function have been having strained relationship with county Governor John Nyagarama who was present, and have been on the frontline accusing Nyagarama's regime of massive corruption.
