Teachers from Nyamira County have been challenged to improve performance of their respective schools by coming up with strategies that will combat a string of poor performances in national exams.
Speaking at Dorcus Sigara academy on Sunday, Mrs Naomi Nyagarama said many institutions were performing dismally due to lack of proper strategies in the institutions.
He urged teachers to improvise strategies that will increase internal competitions to assess the abilities of their candidates before sitting for national exams.
“I think our schools are not doing well because many schools do not have unique strategies that will improve performances. We don’t learn from the past since we keep repeating similar mistakes in national exams. The county didn’t perform well in KCPE 2015 and we expect teachers to take the burden and do something extra,” she said.
She challenged teachers to create remedial times and come up with a similar tests to assess their candidates prior to exams at zone levels.
“I know we have a potential of shining in national exams. All we need to see are teachers developing a unique scheme for instance coming up with remedial to do thorough revision with candidates ahead of exams. We also need to see more in terms of common test done before the exams for general preparations,” she said.
She also urged area institutions to come up with a bench-marking exercise with top schools across the country to assess their performances and learn strategies used by those institutions in performing well at national level.
"Teachers should also come up with bench making exercise so that they visit top schools to learn and exchange notes with their colleagues. They should also carry along them with pupils so that they too learn. That is how we can fix series of poor performances every year,” she said.
