A member of County Assembly (MCA) in Nyamira has advised the Nyamira township business fraternity to desist from staging unnecessary demonstrations and protests over payment of business permits as they must pay revenue to Government for services offered.
Addressing a group of traders at Nyamira on Tuesday, MCA Robert Ongwano told the traders and the residents to give dialogue a chance to enable the county government to serve them well.
He observed that whenever the public identified a hitch relating to revenue collection policies outlined in the finance bill, they should use proper communication channels to address their grievances amicably.
Ongwano explained that Kenyans have a constitutional right to give their views on revenue and taxation policies affecting their county through public participation platforms staged across the region and avoid taking to the streets because of petty issues.
“I know when everything goes wrong in the Public Finance Bill, everybody looks up to the county government, yet all these issues are all consultative between the county Executive, members of the County Assembly and the public to ensure everybody’s views have been captured in the Bill,” Ongwano said.
The MCA expressed concern that the county government had been wrongly blamed for the increment of business levies and rates.
