The Seventh Day Adventist(SDA) church-run, Nyanchwa Adventist College in Kisii County, is set for elevation into a full-fledged university if the Commission for Higher Education(CHE) gives it a green light later this year.

The South Kenya Conference executive director, Pastor Julius Bichang'a, has confirmed that the CHE officials have toured the institution and have approved its infrastructural developments, awaiting a final clearance on teaching staff before it is elevated into a full-fledged university.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, at Nyanchwa campgrounds, while addressing the church's departmental heads from across the churches in the conference, Bichang'a disclosed that the college is yet to acquire CHE's infrastructural development requirement and advised the administration to meet the teaching staff requirement before the college is elevated into a university.

Bichang'a, however, clarified that the administration of South Kenya Conference was facing a challenge of recruiting lecturers for the anticipated university, but all systems of hiring the required number of  qualified lecturers for each discipline were in place and prospects of meeting CHE's teaching staff requirement were bright.

He disclosed that the college needs about sh4million to meet CHE's requirements before it is certified for elevation into a full-fledged university, calling on the church's faithful to support the initiative which he said will come with many benefits to the area residents.
