Nyando sub county headquarters is set to be moved to Ahero, from Awasi where it has been since the establishment of the administrative unit.

Administrative complications surrounding Kobura Ward, which is one of the five wards in Nyando has led to the move, with area leaders saying the residents of the ward have been disadvantaged.

Politically Kobura residents are in Nyando, where they participate in the Nyando parliamentary elections.

However, administratively, they fall within Kisumu East sub county, with arrests, land disputes and other matters concerning the national government handled in Kisumu East.

The recent establishment of Kisumu East sub county headquarters in Kibos has now left Kobura residents in the dark, a situation which has led to the review of the administrative boundaries to have Kobura in Nyando sub county, and the headquarters moved to Ahero which is the central place for the sub county.

Nyando MP Fred Outa on Sunday confirmed that a meeting had been scheduled on Monday at Ahero Multipurpose Hall to finalise the move.

“Any time there are opportunities, Kobura people are rejected by the Nyando administrators, telling them to go to Kisumu East, and it is the same response they get from Kisumu East that they belong to Nyando,” said Outa.

He added: “In the recent police recruitment, or employment of teachers, the area residents have been missing out because they are rejected from both sides. We now want to make it clear that Kobura people remain in Nyando both politically and administratively so that things can be smooth.”

He expressed confidence that the move will benefit the residents as they will have easy way to handle even issues of land.
