Kenya National Library Services chairman Samuel Nyangeso has hit at the opposition over claims that the government is misusing public resources in fundraisers.
Speaking on Saturday at Bituka Sevent Day Adventist church in Kitutu Chache South constituency during a fundraiser, Nyangeso accused Cord leader Raila Odinga of hypocrisy for raising 'ghost issues' aimed at tainting the image of the government.
“ODM leader Raila Odinga is tainting the name of the government. His claims that the government is misappropriating public funds in fundraisers are false and unfounded. He is leaning on that to earn an audience and remain relevant politically,” Nyangeso said.
He added: “You cannot use false means to survive in something. If Raila wants to keep himself relevant let him do what is right. He must not say anything in order to earn trust from Kenyans.”
Odinga has been in the forefront accusing the government of swindling public funds and donating taxpayers' money in fundraisers.
The former prime minister has been questioning millions of shillings Deputy President William Ruto donates in fundraisers.
He has since demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy to declare their wealth if they are sincere in the fight against corruption.
Nyangeso challenged the opposition to join hands in the war against graft.
“President Kenyatta and Ruto cannot end corruption on their own. Joint efforts are needed to tame the vice,” he said.
His sentiments were vehemently supported by former legislators Walter Nyambati (Kitutu Masaba) and Dr Robert Monda (Nyaribari Chache).
“There is rampart corruption and this is experienced both in county and national governments. The opposition should remove the log from their eyes before wondering of specks in others people’s eyes,” said Nyambati, the chairman Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF).
Monda, the chairman for Accreditation Board said: “Blame game cannot end corruption. All of us have a role to play in the battle against corruption.”
The trio called on faithful and Kenyans to pray for the country and counties, noting there were a myriad of challenges facing the two levels of governments.
They also asked Kenyans to pray for DP Ruto and his co-accused journalist Joshua arap Sang’ to get out of the ICC hook and concentrate in serving Kenyans.
