Nyanza Internally Displaced Persons who were integrated in households are worried that the resettlement programme could end without any help from the national government.

The regional IDPs chairman Nelson Owegi said they were perturbed when Deputy President William Ruto announced that the resettlement has ended.

Owegi said IDPs in the region have been neglected.

“We are wondering why we are being neglected, we suffered the same fate as those IDPs who are being resettled,” he said.

He appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and have the Nyanza IDPs compensated just like other IDPs in the country.

Owegi said they are genuine IDPs who lost their property during the post election violence and should not be left behind.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Owegi said his members are living in abject poverty.

He said some are already depressed after the announcement of the closure of the resettlement programme.

Owegi told the Deputy President that he should not be misled that no any other IDP has been left out in the programme.

“Some of our members are losing hope and I want to tell them as their representative that I will not tire to ensure they get compensated as others,” he said.
