Kiambu women representative Anna Nyokabi has issued business loans to 54 widow support groups in Kinoo, Kikuyu Sub-County in a bid to boost their livelihood.

Nyokabi launched the programme last year in an effort to assist widows in the region.

Addressing the women groups on Thursday at the Kinoo chief’s camp, Nyokabi said that most widows in the region live in poverty due to lack of jobs, thus are unable to educate and feed their children.

The women rep said the programme was initiated to help widows from poor homes venture into businesses to enable them to cater for their families' needs.

She encouraged women in the area to form groups and register them for them to access the loans.

“54 groups have benefited from the programme and I urge them to venture into business in a bid to earn a living. We offer loans of upto Sh70,000 and I urge other widows who are struggling to form groups and register them to be able to access the loans,’’ said Nyokabi.

The women representative said the programme has so far aided over 200 widow groups in the region.
