Senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o has defended Senators eying the gubernatorial seat in 2017 arguing that they are not hungry for power as claimed.

Prof Nyong’o said they are pained by lack of seriousness for development on the ground and offered to fix the problems come 2017.

He said he is capable of doing other things but is worried over the management of his county affairs.

“I can even be the UN Secretary General but I have chosen to come back home and help my people,” he said.

He noted that he will present himself as a candidate in 2017 for Kisumu County Governor position and it will be up to the voters to make the decision.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Monday, Nyong’o said ODM party decided to look for technocrats to be governors in their strongholds.

“After the promulgation of the Constitution, we as ODM sat down and decided to identify technocrats to drive devolution in the counties,” he said.

“For the case of Kisumu County, we approached former Permanent Secretary David Nalo but unfortunately he died before elections, we then picked on Jack Ranguma, whom I campaigned for and voted for,” he said.

He said as seasoned politicians they decided to go for senatorial positions to be able to come up with strong policies to drive and strengthen devolution.

However, he claimed the technocrats have failed to deliver proper services to the public and Senators are now stepping in to bring the desired change.
