The biometric registration for the National Youth Service in Kisumu has been postponed.
The over 4,000 youth who had been working on the NYS projects in Nyalenda, Manyatta and Obunga slums had been instructed to report to the Kenya Wildlife Service Western regional office by 9am on Tuesday for a fresh biometric registration.
This now means the NYS projects which were expected to commence in Kisumu next week will be delayed.
"Please inform all cohorts that registration which was to take place has been postponed. New date shall be communicated tomorrow," reada text message sent to the youth.
The cohorts had been told that they will be deleted from the payroll should they fail to report for the registration.
However the beneficiaries who turned up for the exercise were yesterday disappointed after another communication channeled through their supervisors indicated that the process had been called off for a later date.
The youth who spoke to this writer said no reason had been given for the postponement of the exercise.
As some youth claimed logistical issues could have caused the delay in the commencement of the process, another group claim the exercise was called off after reports indicated that a section of leaders from the area were opposed to it.
