Thika deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie has appealed to chiefs in the area to sensitise the public on Nyumba Kumi security imitative in order to effectively fight crime.

Speaking to journalists in her office on Tuesday, the deputy OCPD observed that a large per cent of residents have not embraced Nyumba Kumi.

She said that failure by locals to adopt the security initiative has led to increase in criminal acts in several parts of the sub county.

“It is evident basing on the information we are getting that many residents living in this area do not know their neighbours or people living close to them,” she said.

Kiarie said that Nyumba Kumi and other community policing initiatives being introduced by the government will help tame crime if members of the public adopt them.

She urged chiefs and other local administrative leaders to join hands in ensuring law and order is maintained across the sub county.

Kiarie also appealed to locals to work with the police noting that it is the only way crime will reduce.
