Women leaders in Kisumu have challenged their counterparts in the county to register as voters.
“Kisumu County had over 900,000 potential voters in the last general elections but only about 600,000 participated in the 2013 polls. It means 300,000 did not vote,” said Orange Democratic Movement Deputy Organising Secretary Rosa Buyu.
“This number multiplied by the number of Luo Nyanza counties among other Cord strongholds shows clearly that Jubilee’s tyranny of numbers is nothing but a myth and a ploy to hoodwink the Kenyan voter,” shes said.
She faulted other leaders for allegedly discouraging residents to shun the upcoming IEBC voter registration exercise claiming the electoral body is wrong to conduct the exercise at the ward level and not the polling stations.
“They should fight for the electoral body to get more funds to conduct the exercise at the polling stations but encourage residents to register wherever,” said Ms Buyu.
Speaking during a strategic meeting that attracted over 200 women leaders including MCAs constituency party officials on Monday, nominated MCA Pamela Awuor said women will be key for the orange outfit in the upcoming general elections.
