A former Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament has vehemently denied claims that he returned over Sh10M from CDF kitty in 2006/07 financial year even with abandoned projects across the constituency.

Mr Mwancha Okioma who served in the 9th Parliament is eyeing Nyamira gubernatorial seat after his attempts in 2013 to clinch it failed when he finished fourth.

Okioma has been under immense criticism from a section of leaders from his backyard Kitutu Masaba with an onslaught led by incumbent MP Timothy Bosire and aspiring Governor Mr Charles Mochama who claim that the former MP could not be able to manage over Sh2 billion county funds if he failed to manage the CDF kitty when he was MP.

Okioma, however, denied the claims on Monday evening when he met a section of youths from Borabu at Dam Side Hotel and accused his critics of being ‘rumour mongers’.

“It’s improper for someone to go around accusing me of returning Sh10M to Treasury. Records are in the office and whoever wants to see what happened to our money that year should go to the Treasury and confirm. Otherwise those are rumour mongers who are out to hamper my chances to become governor,” he said.

He said during his tenure he used the CDF kitty reasonably and maintained that he never returned a single cent to Treasury at the end of the financial year.

“I don’t remember returning the money to Treasury. I improved education and maintained roads in the constituency and I think I am best suited to manage the county. I never abandoned any projects,” he told youthful supporters from the region.
