The Kibera MP, Ken Okoth and his office have decided to use the church to empower the community.
The office of the MP planned a three-day training workshop for more than 200 churches in Kibera. The workshop welcomed partners like World Relief and Centre for Transformational Mission. The churches are to come together and form a united coalition of Kibera churches.
According to the Kibera constituency parliamentary liaison officer, Vincent Ayako, the purpose of all this is to promote church participation in social, economic and political empowerment in Kibera.
The training saw church leaders being trained on exemplary leadership, character and moral development and need to live for the sake of others.
Other partners who came attended the training workshop are I Chose Life, Alpha Africa, Liberty Insurance and the International Justice Mission.
‘‘When church leaders are taught, they can teach many people from Kibera and other places. These people are quick to be listened to by the people in society. If the pastors are educated on different topics, they can easily educate other people in society during church summons,’’ said Peter Ongeri.
