One person died and thirteen sustained injuries in a road accident along Nairobi-Garissa highway at Musingi market in Kithyoko, Yatta sub-county on Feb 20 at night.
Confirming the incident Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said that the accident was as a result of a poor road at the place of the accident.
The accident was between 14 passenger matatu and a lorry whereby the lorry that was coming from Mwingi side was trying to escape a pothole where it collided with the matatu.
"The accident occurred due to bad roads which residents have been calling upon the county government of Machakos to repair but none has ever taken their grievances seriously. It is sad that one person has died on the spot and thirteen left with injuries, "said Kipsang.
Kipsang urged drivers to be careful while driving and take into consideration that the road is in a bad state.
Among the injured, thirteen five of them were critically injured and rushed to Machakos level five hospital while the six with minor injuries were rushed to Matuu level four hospital.
The body of the dead person was taken to Matuu Median hospital mortuary.
