Nominated Senator Janet Ongera has been backed by two Kisii County Assembly members to deputise governor James Ongwae in 2017 polls.
This comes at a time when a number of MCAs allied to ODM are mounting pressure on Ongwae to drop his current deputy Joash Maangi who has been accused of betraying the Orange party by supporting Jubilee coalition.
Speaking on Thursday at Mash Park Hotel, majority Chief Whip Henry Moracha and Chitago Borabu MCA Albert Oino said Ongera was best suited to boost Ongwae’s chance of reelection.
“The county still needs our governor for the second term but that can only happen of he drops his current deputy whose popularity is diminishing due to his close association with government. My choice will be Senator Ongera because she has shown her competence in matters devolution and also will be a voice of women in our county,” Moracha said.
Oino on his part said Ongera’s polarity had substantially increased in the region and was likely to boost Ongwae’s fortune due to her vast knowledge in matters devolution.
“She has been in politics for a while especially in our ODM party and is well conversant with devolution. I have no doubt that she Will be an asset to Ongwae’s camp and that’s why we have come out open to challenge our Governor to propose that to her. We still need our Governor but his chances will be complicated if he chooses to remain loyal to Maangi,” he said.
Ongera could not be reached for comment since her calls went unanswered and text messages on the subject could not be replied either.
