Governor James Ongwae of Kisii has defended his development record insisting that the county has achieved a lot ever since he took over in 2013.

Mr Ongwae is facing a titanic challenge as he seeks to defend his seat in 2017 polls after two prominent leaders led by Charles Nyachae and Manson Nyamweya declared their interests in dislodging him from leadership.

Speaking at Nyamataro on Sunday when he paid a courtesy call to departed don Prof Joseph Nyasani, Ongwae said his government had achieved a number of things in the infrastructure, agriculture and education.

“My government has done well in a number of areas and I don’t see the reason why my competitors can go around accusing me of incompetence. We have seen our roads done and our ECDE schools upgraded. Farmers can now sell their bananas and avocados after we initiated the processing plants in the county,” he said.

He hailed members of county assembly for working with his government regardless of their political affiliation and termed equipping our number of county hospitals as a milestone achievement in his leadership.

“Our MCAs are very objective and people have seen how they handle issues maturely without bringing party politics. Our hospitals have been equipped and people can now receive treatment even at the rural area dispensaries,” he said.

The county boss invited his competitors to the 2017 challenge and warned them of a defeat based on his milestone development achievements.

“They are free to join the race because it’s their constitutional right. However, they must be ready for a humiliating defeat because I am optimistic of winning,” he added.
