Kisii Governor James Ongwae has dismissed speculations that he is aware of the meeting between Gusii leaders and Deputy President William Ruto at his Sugoi home in Eldoret.

Ongwae who was speaking at Kitutu Chache North on Thursday during a burial of a family member said the county leadership wasn’t aware of the meeting and said those who represented the county went there on a personal capacity.

He said any development issue about Kisii County would be discussed at the county since it is an ideal place for those planning to support development to assess the real situation on the ground.

“I have received several calls from a number of leaders and even the locals about the meeting that is taking place at William Ruto’s home. The county government is not aware and that is why I am here for a different function. Those who went there must have gone on an individual capacity,” he said.

Ongwae slammed the meeting saying it should have taken place within the county so that the Deputy President gets a chance to assess a number of sectors that were in urgent need from the national government.

“It’s not that we don’t need the meeting, the county government wasn’t informed and if at all it was to take place, any place within the county would have been ideal because the DP would be able to see some of the sectors like infrastructure that are in diminishing condition,” he said.

The delegation from Kisii County is conspicuously led by Ongwae’s Deputy Joash Maangi and ODM rebel MP Richard Onyonka of Kitutu Chache South and Nyaribari Chache’s Richard Tong’i.
