While addressing a congregation at Kisii University during their third graduation ceremony, Kisii Governor James Ongwae said his government wants to improve medical services in the county by building operational theatres.

"We intend to put in place theatres across all the nine sub-counties of Kisii.

We have already putting theatres in Nyamache, Keumbu, Gesusu and Ogembo, and we plan to work on new theatres in Marani, Iranda, among other places," said Ongwae.

Mr Ongwae also noted that he held talks with an Arab Bank to acquire loans to set up a cancer centre.

"In areas of collaboration in medicine, we had discussions with the Arab Bank for International Development and we were able to get a loan of Sh2 billion to put up a cancer centre in Kisii county," he added.

This would be the third public cancer centre in Kenya, after Kenyatta and Moi referral hospitals. The cancer centre, according to Ongwae, will be put up beginning 2016.
